Just about three blocks from the new Bang & Olufsen store is Commissary DC. The restaurant, which opened yesterday, is a lot of fun and quite good. Megan and I tried it this morning for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised with the successful way the former Merkado restaurant was transformed into what I am sure will be a hit.
This neighborhood restaurant is extremely casual, laid back and features good food at extremely reasonable prices. The restaurant is also in the process of being certified as a "Super Green" eco-friendly establishment.
Here's what they have to say:
"Commissary. It is to be a very casual cafe, lounge, liquor, beer and wine bar as well as a coffeehouse and smoothie bar. We will serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, snacks and huge selection of desserts. We will have a lounge area, outside cafe, strong take-out presence and free wi-fi. We will have a diverse, simple and inexpensive menu; from breakfast all day to Sandwiches, Salads and Pizza all day and night and a dinner selection that kicks in at 5 PM. In addition to the many offerings on the Commissary menu are several quotes printed here and there. One of my favorite quotes from Dr. Seuss appears at the end of the menu on the back page. It reads:
